The ITB menu splits into two modes:

Each race fields six horses, numbered by how likely they are to win. Horses #1 and #2 carry the shortest odds and win most often; #3 and #4 are mid-tier; #5 and #6 are long shots that pay big but rarely land. Odds are displayed as fractions - for example, 2/1 means a $100 bet returns $200 in profit plus your original stake if that horse wins.

The game randomly pulls each horse's odds from a set pool, so the six numbers on screen don't always add up to a clean 100% probability behind the scenes - some races are simply more generous than others. That randomness is exactly why refreshing the Single Event menu matters: you're not just rerolling horses, you're rerolling the whole race's payout structure until you find one worth betting on.

You only get paid if your horse wins the race outright. Coming in second or third pays nothing, no matter how close the finish.

The best strategy to win consistently

The strategy that shows up across every experienced Inside Track player's notes is simple and repeatable:

1. Open Single Event and check the odds on horse #1 and horse #2.
2. If horse #1 is sitting at even money (roughly 1/1) and horse #2 is priced at 5/1 or higher, that's a race worth betting.
3. Back horse #1 for as much as you're comfortable risking, since a strong favorite with a much weaker second horse tends to win more often than the raw odds suggest.
4. If the odds don't match that pattern, back out of the terminal and re-enter to pull a new race. Repeat until you find one that qualifies.

This won't win every single race, but over dozens of bets it produces a steadier return than chasing 8/1 or 12/1 long shots. Betting the favorite in a lopsided field is closer to a coin flip with better-than-even payout odds than a genuine gamble.

Tips to avoid losing money

• Don't chase long shots repeatedly. The highest-odds horses look tempting because of the payout multiplier, but they lose far more often than they win, and the losses add up faster than the occasional big hit makes back.
• Treat Main Event as a bonus, not your main income. Since you can't reroll the odds, only bet Main Event when the field already looks favorable, and skip it otherwise.
• Set a stop point. Inside Track has no cooldown, which makes it easy to keep betting after a losing streak to "win it back." Decide on a bankroll limit before you start.
