How many hours of minimum-wage work does GTA 6 cost?
A minimum-wage worker needs 4.9 hours to pay for GTA 6 in Australia, and 61.0 hours in Brazil: 12.4 times as long.
We compared the PlayStation Store price of the Grand Theft Auto VI Standard Edition with the statutory minimum wage in 30 countries, using official sources only. Same game, same store, very different effort.

Country notes
- Australia. National minimum wage for adults not covered by an award or an enterprise agreement.
- Netherlands. Rate for workers aged 21 and over.
- United Kingdom. National Living Wage, for workers aged 21 and over.
- Belgium. Guaranteed average minimum monthly income for workers aged 18 and over, as indexed on 1 July 2026, converted over the 38-hour legal week.
- Canada. The federal minimum wage applies only to federally regulated private-sector employers. Provinces and territories set the rate for everyone else, and a worker gets whichever is higher. Store prices exclude sales tax.
- Japan. Japan sets minimum wages by prefecture. The figure is the national weighted average of the fiscal 2026 rates, which prefectures apply between 1 October and 2 December 2026. On 17 October 2026, the rates in force ranged from 1,023 to 1,280 yen an hour (Tokyo).
- Israel. Hourly rate for workers aged 18 and over, on the 182-hour monthly basis.
- Spain. The minimum wage (SMI) is paid in 14 instalments a year; its legal annual floor is 17,094 euros.
- United States. The federal minimum wage has been $7.25 an hour since July 2009. 30 states and Washington, D.C. set a higher rate (Department of Labor table of 1 July 2026), and it takes fewer hours there. Store prices exclude sales tax.
- Poland. Poland's hourly minimum of 31.40 zloty applies only to civil-law contracts. Employees are covered by the monthly minimum wage of 4,806 zloty, converted here over the 40-hour week.
- Greece. Monthly minimum for salaried employees, paid 14 times a year with the Christmas, Easter and holiday bonuses. Manual workers have a daily rate of 41.09 euros.
- Portugal. Mainland rate (the Azores and Madeira set their own), paid 14 times a year with the Christmas and holiday allowances.
- Hong Kong. Hong Kong, a Special Administrative Region of China, has its own statutory minimum wage and its own PlayStation Store, so it is listed separately.
- Türkiye. Gross monthly minimum wage, fixed for all of 2026 (28,075.50 lira net of employee contributions), converted over the 45-hour legal week.
- Mexico. Mexico sets a daily minimum wage, paid for every day of the year: 315.04 pesos in the general zone, 440.87 in the northern border zone. The hourly figure spreads a year of daily wages over the 48-hour legal week of 2026, which falls to 40 hours by 2030.
- Malaysia. Rate set by the Minimum Wages Order 2024, which covers every employer since 1 August 2025.
- Brazil. The decree publishes the hourly rate itself: R$7.37, the monthly wage of R$1,621 divided by 220 hours, a divisor that counts the paid weekly rest day. Converted over the 44-hour constitutional week instead, as this study does where only a monthly wage exists, it would be about R$8.50 an hour and 52.9 hours of work: Brazil would still rank last.
Methodology
Price: the Grand Theft Auto VI Standard Edition for PS5 (digital), as listed on each country's PlayStation Store on October 17, 2026. One store everywhere keeps the comparison like for like. In the United States and Canada, sales tax is added at checkout, so the real price there is a little higher.
Minimum wage: the statutory minimum wage in force on October 17, 2026, gross (before tax and social contributions), for an adult worker, from the government or the official body that sets it. Where the official source gives an hourly rate, we use it as published.
Where only a monthly or a daily rate exists, we turn it into an hourly one: a year of pay (counting the 13th and 14th months where the law requires them) divided by the legal full-time week times 52 weeks. The table shows the original figure under every converted rate, and the sources list the legal texts behind each conversion.
Hours of work = price / hourly minimum wage. Working days divide those hours by 8. Exchange rates play no part in the hours, since price and wage are compared in the same currency. Dollar amounts are indicative only, converted with the European Central Bank euro reference rates of October 16, 2026.
Hong Kong is listed among the countries for readability. Rates that do not cover every worker (United States, Canada, Japan) are labelled in the table and explained in the country notes.
Countries left out, and why
- Austria, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland: No statutory national minimum wage: pay floors are set by collective agreements. (Eurostat, Statistics Explained: Minimum wage statistics)
- India: The Code on Wages provides for a national floor wage, but we found no amount notified by the reference date; binding minimum wages vary by state, job and zone. - China, Thailand: Minimum wages are set by province or region, with no single national rate. (Gov.cn: Minimum Wage Regulations (provincial standards); Ministry of Labour (Thailand): Wage Committee Notification No. 14 (rates by province))
- Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay: The local PlayStation Store prices GTA 6 in US dollars, not in the local currency, so what a worker pays depends on the exchange rate and charges applied at payment. (PlayStation Store Argentina (es-ar), Grand Theft Auto VI, Standard Edition)
- Taiwan, Ukraine: The European Central Bank publishes no reference rate for the currency, and the study uses that one source for every dollar amount. (European Central Bank, euro foreign exchange reference rates)
