Will GTA 6 Have Public Transport? The Bus Spotted in the Official Trailers
A city bus drives through the very first shot of GTA 6 Trailer 1. Here is what the official trailers show about buses, trains and fast travel in Leonida, and what is still guesswork.

Every GTA city needs a way to move around, and until now Rockstar's answer was mostly "steal a car". But GTA 6 is shaping up to be the most lived-in map the studio has ever built, and a small detail in the official trailers has fans asking a bigger question: will Leonida have real public transport?
Short answer: the trailers point strongly that way, and a Rockstar North executive has talked about it publicly. Below is a careful breakdown of what is actually visible on screen, what has been said, and what we are inferring. As always with GTA 6, anything beyond the official trailers and official statements is speculation, and we label it as such.
The bus in the first shot of Trailer 1
The clearest evidence is also the easiest to miss. In the opening shot of the first official trailer, a city bus drives along a freeway in Leonida. It is not a prop parked in a lot or a vague blur: it is a full-size transit bus, in motion, sharing the road with regular traffic.
The same style of vehicle shows up again in Trailer 2, in the background of a shot built around a flashy car. In the official screenshots Rockstar released, the livery is white and blue with a single red stripe. In Trailer 2 the bus appears closer to all white.
Community identification, which is fan analysis and not an official Rockstar statement, says the design is inspired by the New Flyer Xcelsior, a very common single-decker transit bus in the United States. The blue and white colors also echo the look of Miami-Dade County's real-life Metrobus fleet. That fits perfectly: Vice City is Rockstar's version of Miami, and Miami buses are exactly what you would expect to see there.
Why does this matter? In older GTA games, buses were mostly traffic. Seeing one in the first seconds of a flagship trailer suggests Rockstar wants the vehicle to be part of the world's identity, and possibly part of gameplay.
What Rockstar North has actually said
The most concrete statement comes from Rob Nelson, studio co-head at Rockstar North, during a hands-off preview. According to a report relaying the preview, he said that "there's a few ways that you can fast travel in the game, mainly through things like public transport."
Details reported from that preview, which come second-hand through a creator who attended and the outlets that covered it, include:
- Bus stops appear on the mini-map, and players can board buses that follow specific routes.
- Taxis are available on the road.
- An in-game app called RydeMe, a clear nod to ride-hailing services, lets players order a taxi.
- Players can either skip the travel time or sit back and watch the journey, which suggests the trip itself is rendered and not just a loading screen.
We cover the app side of this in our guide to RydeMe and fast travel in GTA 6. Treat the exact feature list as reported, not as a product page: Rockstar has not published a full breakdown.
Trains and the metro: what Trailer 2 shows
Buses are not the only transit hint. In Trailer 2, around the 0:45 mark, Jason is driving down a street while police deal with some street crooks. In the same shot, an elevated train can be seen running on a bridge or viaduct above the road. Fans describe it as having a blue and silver livery, and place it above County Road 561 in the La Perle area, which would mean at least part of the rail network runs inside Vice City itself.
That is the first official visual confirmation that trains exist in the game's world. What it does not confirm is how you would use it. There are several open questions:
- Can the player board the train, or is it scenery?
- Does it connect Vice City to other regions, or only run within the city?
- Can you fast travel by rail, and can you skip the ride?
Anyone telling you they know the answers is guessing. The honest status is "a train is visible, nothing official about player interaction".
Bus, taxi, train, app: how the pieces might fit together
Putting the verified bits side by side, a picture emerges, although it is a picture built from a few frames and one interview:
- Buses on set routes. Reported bus stops on the mini-map suggest a lightweight, readable system: walk to a stop, board a bus, ride along a route.
- Taxis on demand. Either hail one on the street or use the RydeMe app.
- Trains as scenery at minimum. An elevated line in Vice City exists on screen. Whether you can ride it is not established.
- Choice between skipping and watching. That design respects both players who want speed and players who want to soak in the city.
The pattern is consistent with a map that is simply bigger and more connected than anything before. Our overview of the map and regions of Leonida and the list of known neighborhoods and locations show how much ground there is to cover, and a transit layer would make that ground easier to navigate without breaking the feeling of scale.
What it could mean for gameplay (speculation)
Everything in this section is informed guessing based on how earlier GTA games and other open-world games handle similar systems.
Getting around without a car. If you lose your car in a chase, or want to avoid a wanted level, transit offers an alternative to stealing the next vehicle. That could fit well with the game's more reactive police behavior, which we looked at in the wanted system and police AI explainer.
A reason to slow down. Because players can reportedly watch the journey, a bus ride could double as sightseeing, which suits a setting built around neighborhoods, highways and wildlife.
Crowds and city life. A functioning transit network usually comes with passengers, waiting pedestrians and scheduled behavior. That would line up with Rockstar's emphasis on NPC routines and a living world, but again, nothing official ties transit to NPC systems.
Traffic and fuel. Buses are slow, heavy vehicles that follow rules. Whether they stop traffic, block lanes or interact with the fuel system is unknown, so do not assume anything.
Can you drive the bus?
Another open question. In past GTA games, you could hijack and drive buses, and some had mission or side-activity use. The trailers show the bus moving as traffic or background, not as a player-controlled vehicle. We have no official information on whether the bus can be driven, how it handles, or whether it has a dedicated activity. When you check the full list of vehicles confirmed so far, you will notice that only what appears in trailers and screenshots is documented, and the bus is currently in the "seen, not explained" category.
What is confirmed, what is likely, what is unknown
To keep things clear, here is a simple status board.
Confirmed by the official trailers:
- A city bus is present in Leonida traffic (Trailer 1 opening shot, again in Trailer 2).
- An elevated train is visible in Vice City (Trailer 2, around 0:45).
Reported from an official preview (second-hand):
- Public transport is one of the main ways to fast travel.
- Bus stops on the mini-map, taxis, and the RydeMe app.
- Option to skip or watch the journey.
Fan identification, not official:
- The bus resembles a New Flyer Xcelsior and Miami-Dade style Metrobus coloring.
- Precise train line position in La Perle.
Unknown:
- Whether trains are rideable.
- Whether the bus can be driven.
- Fares, schedules, route maps, or any link to missions.
How to treat future leaks and rumors
Public transport is exactly the kind of topic that attracts fake maps and invented route lists. Be careful with any "full bus map" or "all stations" claim. Stick to official trailers, screenshots and statements from Rockstar. We also explain how to filter bad information in our guide on how to spot fake leaks.
Bottom line
Will GTA 6 have public transport? Based on the official material, yes, at least in some form: a bus in the first shot of the first trailer, an elevated train in the second, and a Rockstar North studio co-head describing public transport as a main way to fast travel. What we do not know yet is the depth of the system, from whether you can ride the train to whether you can take the wheel of that bus.
The game launches on 19 November 2026, so the full answer is not far away. Until then, keep an eye on official channels, and treat the rest as an educated guess.
