GTA 6 Launch Trailer: 90 Seconds Captured on PS5, Everything It Shows
Rockstar released the GTA 6 launch trailer on October 15, 2026: 90 seconds captured on PS5, a new Justice song with SZA and Tame Impala, and a closer look at Jason's past. Here is what it shows, and what it does not.

Rockstar dropped the GTA 6 launch trailer on October 15, 2026, with no countdown and no teaser. It runs roughly 90 seconds, Rockstar says it was captured on PlayStation 5, and it is set to a brand new song by Justice. Here is everything the trailer actually shows, what it does not, and what it tells us five weeks before release.
The essentials:
- Released: October 15, 2026, on Rockstar's YouTube channel and the official GTA VI site
- Length: about 90 seconds
- Captured on: PlayStation 5 hardware, per Rockstar (standard PS5 or PS5 Pro was not specified)
- Song: "Flower in a Hurricane" by Justice, featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
- Focus: Jason and Lucia, Vice City and the wider state of Leonida
- Release date: unchanged, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
- PC: still no date announced
A surprise drop, five weeks out
Rockstar has a habit of letting its trailers land without warning, and the launch trailer followed the same pattern. It went live on October 15, about five weeks before the November 19 release, and it is the first new trailer since the long Extended Look video made with Netflix in late August.
The reaction was immediate. Forbes reported that the video had passed 18 million views within roughly 11 hours of going up. That is in line with the series' track record: the first trailer in December 2023 and the second one in 2025 both broke viewing records in their first day.
The title says it plainly: this is a launch trailer. In Rockstar's tradition, that means a mood piece designed to sell the world and the characters, not a gameplay deep dive. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 both got a similar short, music-driven video in the weeks before release.
"Captured on PS5": what that claim means
According to coverage of Rockstar's release notes, the footage was "captured directly from the game running on PlayStation 5 hardware." Rockstar used the same wording for Trailer 2, which it described as made of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes.
Two caveats matter here:
- Rockstar did not say which PS5. The standard console and the PS5 Pro were not distinguished, so the trailer is not proof of how the base console will look at launch. If you are still deciding between the two, our PS5 vs PS5 Pro guide for GTA 6 covers what is known so far.
- "Captured in-game" is not the same as "raw gameplay." Trailers are edited, framed and color-graded. The scenes run in the engine, but camera angles and cuts are chosen for the camera, not the player.
If you want to know how earlier footage held up frame by frame, our framerate analysis of the Extended Look is the closest thing to hard data available before launch.
What the trailer shows
The 90 seconds are a fast montage rather than a single sequence. Across outlets that broke it down, the recurring elements are:
- Vice City and Leonida: beaches, neon streets, luxury cars and the swampier edges of the state, consistent with everything Rockstar has shown since 2023.
- Action beats: gunfights, car chases and crime scenes, cut to the rhythm of the song.
- Jason and Lucia together: the couple sits at the center of almost every shot, including an intimate scene that confirms the game will depict their relationship explicitly at least once.
- Story framing: the official description, "Vice City, USA," sums up the premise Rockstar has repeated for months: an easy score goes wrong and the pair get pulled into a criminal conspiracy across Leonida.
The Jason line everyone is quoting
The most discussed moment is a line from Jason, as reported by Kotaku:
"I got in trouble in the army. Didn't leave on the best of terms. They don't give loans or anything to people like me."
It is the clearest look yet at Jason's background. It suggests he left the military under a cloud, possibly a dishonorable discharge, and that the lack of options afterward is part of what pushes him into crime. Rockstar has not detailed his service history beyond this, so treat any deeper reading as interpretation. What the trailer does not show
This is where expectations need managing. Several outlets, including Wccftech and Gizchina, noted the same thing: the launch trailer does not reveal new gameplay mechanics and offers little new on open-world activities.
Concretely, there is nothing new in it about:
- GTA Online or any multiplayer component
- The map size or a full map reveal
- Systems such as character switching, the wanted level or the economy
- A PC version or its timing
- Performance modes (30 or 60 fps) on consoles
If you were hoping for a gameplay walkthrough, the Extended Look from August remains the most detailed official look at how the game plays. The launch trailer is about tone.
"Flower in a Hurricane": the song behind the trailer
The music is arguably the bigger news. The trailer debuts "Flower in a Hurricane," a new track by the French electronic duo Justice (Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay), featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
A few things worth knowing:
- Justice composed GTA 6's original score, as Rockstar has already credited them. This track is their first standalone single tied to the game.
- It will be on the official soundtrack. Rockstar confirmed it is part of Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, the 34-track record announced in September. We covered the full tracklist, artists and prices when it was revealed.
- The sound mixes genres on purpose. Coverage describes a blend of soul, disco, classic rock and synth, a deliberate nod to the many musical faces of Florida that inspire Leonida.
Whether the song also plays on an in-game radio station has not been confirmed. Rockstar has only said it is on the album.
What it tells us about the run-up to launch
A launch trailer is usually the start of the final marketing push, not the end of it. Based on how Rockstar handled GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, here is what is reasonable to expect over the next five weeks. None of this is announced; it is a pattern, not a promise:
- TV and cinema spots cut from the same footage
- More screenshots and character art on the official site
- Preload details for digital buyers. Several outlets report that digital downloads could open around November 12, a week before release, but Rockstar has not confirmed a date
- Partner events, like the already announced Miami Heat "A Night in Vice City" game on November 18
The one thing the trailer firmly confirms is that the date is holding. Its closing card still reads November 19, 2026, which, after two delays, is the detail most players were watching for.
Where to watch it
The launch trailer is available on:
- Rockstar Games' official YouTube channel
- The official GTA VI site, on its dedicated launch trailer page
- Rockstar's social accounts
Stick to the official channels. Re-uploads often add fake "leaked gameplay" or scam links to so-called early access, which does not exist.
The bottom line
The GTA 6 launch trailer is not a gameplay reveal, and it was never meant to be. It is 90 seconds of Vice City atmosphere, a sharper look at Jason's past and a new Justice single that will likely follow the game for years. Most importantly, it locks in the November 19 date.
