GTA Online Hangar and Air Freight Cargo Guide: Best Location, Setup and Profit

A GTA Online Hangar unlocks the Air Freight Cargo business: you buy one of five hangars from the Maze Bank Foreclosures website, run free smuggling missions to fill it with up to 50 crates, then sell the load for as much as $3.8 million solo, or close to $5.9 million with the High Demand bonus in a full public lobby.

Essentials:

  • Hangar prices range from $1,200,000 to $3,250,000.
  • Every hangar stores up to 20 personal aircraft and includes a vehicle workshop.
  • There are 8 cargo types; the top tier (Narcotics, Chemicals, Medical Supplies) is worth grinding for.
  • Crates can be sourced for free with solo missions, or bought from hangar manager Rooster McCraw for $25,000 a batch.
  • A full 50-crate sale of a top-tier good pays $3,825,000 before public-lobby bonuses.

How Much Does a GTA Online Hangar Cost?

You buy a hangar from the Maze Bank Foreclosures website on the in-game phone, the same way you'd buy an Executive Office or a Nightclub. There are five locations, split between Los Santos International Airport (LSIA) and Fort Zancudo:

HangarLocationPrice
Hangar A17LSIA$1,200,000
Hangar 1LSIA$1,525,000
Hangar 3497Fort Zancudo$2,085,000
Hangar 3499Fort Zancudo$2,650,000
Hangar A2Fort Zancudo$3,250,000

Every hangar comes with the same core features: storage for up to 20 personal aircraft, a vehicle workshop for repairing and customizing planes, and full access to Air Freight Cargo missions regardless of price.

Which Hangar Should You Buy?

If you only care about Air Freight Cargo, the cheapest option, LSIA Hangar A17, does the job: sourcing and selling missions work identically no matter which hangar you own. The one real gameplay perk comes from location. Any hangar inside Fort Zancudo automatically grants low-level military clearance, so the base's jets and Merryweather patrols stop scrambling on you the moment you step inside the perimeter, which matters if you also store or fly military aircraft.

Among the Fort Zancudo options, Hangar 3497 is the best value: it's the cheapest of the three at $2,085,000, sits closest to the entrance, and gets you the wanted-level break without paying for the priciest slot. Save Hangar A2's extra $1.15 million for something else unless the exact spot matters to you.

How Air Freight Cargo Works: Source, Store, Sell

Air Freight Cargo runs on the same loop as every other GTA Online cargo business: source it, store it, sell it. The key difference from Special Cargo or MC businesses is that you never pay upfront for stock. Every crate you source through a Freemode mission is free, so a full hangar sale is closer to pure profit, minus Rooster's fee if you use him and Ron's cut on some sell missions.

Your hangar holds up to 50 crates at once, mixed across types if you want, though you'll make far less money that way than by filling it with a single top-tier good (see below). Once it's full, or once you've got enough of the type you want, launch a sell mission from the hangar's laptop to cash out the whole load in one run.

The 8 Cargo Types (and the 3 Worth Grinding For)

There are eight cargo types in Air Freight Cargo: Narcotics, Chemicals, Medical Supplies, Animal Materials, Art & Antiques, Jewelry & Gemstones, Counterfeit Goods, and Tobacco & Alcohol. They aren't equal. Narcotics, Chemicals and Medical Supplies are the top tier, worth $45,000 per crate before bonuses, and they're the only types that scale all the way up to a 70% bulk bonus once your hangar holds 50 crates of the same good. The other five types are worth less per crate and cap out at smaller bonuses much sooner.

The math makes the choice obvious: 50 crates of a top-tier good sell for $2,250,000 base, and the full 70% bonus pushes that to $3,825,000. Mixing types, or grinding a low-tier good, leaves real money on the table for the same amount of playtime. Always source a single top-tier type and hold off selling until you're close to a full hangar.

How to Source Crates for Free

There are two ways to fill your hangar:

  • Free source missions. Launch one from the hangar laptop or the Interaction Menu. Each solo run nets one crate of a type you can usually pick, takes roughly 3 to 10 minutes depending on the mission, and comes with a short cooldown before the next one. Filling all 50 slots this way takes around 50 runs, so budget six to eight hours of active grinding.
  • Rooster McCraw. Your hangar manager will source crates passively for $25,000 a job, coming back later with one or two crates of a random type. It costs money and you can't choose the type, but it fills slots while you're doing something else, so pairing a few Rooster orders with manual runs is a common way to speed up a full top-tier load.

If you're playing with friends, splitting source missions across a crew cuts the grind dramatically since everyone can run a different mission at once and pool the results into one hangar.

Selling Your Cargo Without Losing It

Register as a CEO before you launch a sell mission; Air Freight Cargo, like other CEO businesses, needs you in an organization to start. Playing in a fuller public lobby increases your odds of triggering the High Demand Bonus, an extra multiplier on top of the standard tiered bonus, but it also means more players who can shoot down your cargo plane or ambush your delivery vehicle before you finish. If the game offers a choice of sell mission, land-based deliveries are generally the safer pick: the payout is set by your crate count, tier and session type, not by which mission you're given, so there's no money lost by choosing the mission you're more confident finishing.

Once the mission starts, open the Interaction Menu and activate Ghost Organization if you want to disappear from other players' maps while you drive or fly the cargo to the drop-off. It won't stop a player who stumbles onto you, but it removes the blip that would otherwise paint a target on your back for the whole lobby.

How Much Money Can You Make?

Playing solo, Air Freight Cargo nets roughly $350,000 to $600,000 an hour once you've got the source-and-sell loop down, mostly limited by how fast you can run source missions back to back. A full 50-crate top-tier sale alone pays $3,825,000, and stacking the High Demand Bonus in a busy public lobby can push a single sale close to $5.9 million. That per-sale ceiling makes the hangar one of the higher hourly earners among GTA Online's passive businesses, especially during the weeks Rockstar runs a 2X GTA$ bonus on Hangar Sell Missions, when it's worth clearing your stock as fast as you can restock it.

Is the Hangar Worth It in 2026?

Yes, particularly if you're building toward other CEO-adjacent businesses. The hangar pays for itself within a handful of full sales, doesn't require the constant babysitting a Nightclub or MC business does, and its free-sourcing loop means there's no upfront stock cost eating into your margin the way there is with the Import/Export vehicle warehouse. If you're weighing it against a Bunker or your Executive Office, the hangar's biggest edge is that every crate is free. As long as you can commit to a solid grinding session or two a week, it's one of the most efficient properties to add to a growing criminal empire.
