GTA 5 UFOs: Every Hidden Location and the Full Mystery Explained

GTA 5 hides more flying saucers than most players ever notice. Some only appear after 100% completion, one sits at the bottom of the ocean from day one, and an entire questline exists just to reward you for photographing them. Here is every confirmed UFO in the game, where to find it, and what actually triggers it to show up.

The essentials:

• Four confirmed UFO sightings exist in GTA 5's single-player campaign: Mount Chiliad, Fort Zancudo, a submerged wreck off Paleto Bay, and a fourth over Sandy Shores.
• Three of the four only appear after you hit 100% game completion. The submerged wreck near Paleto Bay is visible any time, at any completion percentage.
• Collecting all 50 Space Ship Parts for the hermit Omega unlocks the Space Docker, GTA 5's own homemade "alien" vehicle.

The Mount Chiliad UFO

The most famous one. At the summit of Mount Chiliad, a flying saucer appears at 3:00 AM during a thunderstorm, but only once the player has reached 100% completion. It hovers silently above the cable car station, ignores bullets and explosives, and vanishes the moment you get too close or wander too far away. Point the coin-operated telescope at the peak toward it for a clearer look.

The mural painted on the wall of the cable car station is the clue that started years of fan theorizing: cryptic glyphs, a crude map of the mountain, and symbols that fans spent nearly a decade trying to decode as the "Chiliad Mystery." Rockstar never confirmed a deeper secret beyond the saucer itself, but the mural is real, it is on the wall right now, and it is worth a look even if you are not chasing the UFO. The Fort Zancudo UFO

Fort Zancudo, the military base in the northwest of the map, hides its own saucer directly above one of the base's bunkers, floating at roughly 70-80% of the map's maximum flight ceiling. Between 1:00 AM and 4:00 AM, green light spills down onto the bunker roof from above, peaking in intensity right at 3:00 AM - the same hour the Chiliad saucer appears.

Reaching it takes a plane or helicopter, since it sits far too high to view from the ground, and restricted airspace over the base means you will likely be shot at by jets on the way up. The submerged UFO off Paleto Bay

This is the one UFO you can find from the very start of the game, with no completion requirement at all. A crashed, algae-covered saucer rests on the ocean floor roughly 400 feet down, northeast of Paleto Bay. You will need a submarine (the Kraken Avisa or the Submersible found near Paleto Cove) or a diving suit with enough oxygen to survive the descent.

Its rough, corroded look and total silence around it make it feel closer to a genuine mystery than the storm-lit spectacle at Chiliad - no lightning, no dramatic light show, just a dead ship quietly rotting on the seabed. A fourth sighting near Sandy Shores

Less documented than the other three, a UFO has also been reported hovering near Sandy Shores under the same 100%-completion condition as the Chiliad and Zancudo saucers. Sightings here are rarer and less consistently reproducible across guides, which fits the game's pattern of keeping its rarest content deliberately ambiguous rather than handing you a marker on the map.

Omega, the Space Ship Parts, and the Space Docker

Not every alien reference in GTA 5 is a UFO sighting. Early in the story, a random encounter introduces Omega, a UFO-obsessed conspiracy theorist who believes fragments of a destroyed alien spacecraft are scattered across San Andreas. He asks you to find all 50 Space Ship Parts hidden around the map.

Turn in every single one and Omega rewards you with the Space Docker: a homemade dune buggy welded together from trash cans, plywood panels and glowing EL wire, built to look like his idea of an alien craft. It is GTA 5's most direct nod to UFO culture that you can actually drive, and finding all 50 parts doubles as one of the more tedious steps toward 100% completion - the same completion threshold that unlocks the Chiliad and Zancudo saucers in the first place.

The Altruist Cult connection

Omega's fixation on aliens sits alongside GTA 5's other fringe-belief group, the Altruist Cult, a compound of elderly men holed up in the hills between Raton Canyon and Mount Chiliad who reject modern society while quietly running a website. The two threads never officially cross, but both live in the same stretch of wilderness around Chiliad, and both feed the sense that the mountain and its surroundings are where Rockstar buried its strangest ideas.

GTA Online's UFO Sightseeing event

Years after launch, Rockstar brought UFOs into GTA Online with a recurring Sightseeing random event, first added alongside the Halloween content in 2022 and repeated in 2023, 2024 and 2025. A saucer appears at a different location around Los Santos each day; find it, snap a photo, and send it to Omega for a cash and RP reward. During the event's later stages there is a roughly 25% chance you get abducted mid-photo and wake up strapped to a research table inside the secret bunker under Fort Zancudo, the same base that hides one of story mode's own saucers.
