GTA 5 Easter Eggs: The Complete Guide to Every Secret
Every confirmed GTA 5 easter egg: 4 UFOs, Bigfoot, Mount Chiliad mystery explained, the Infinity Killer, and more - with exact conditions and locations.

GTA 5 holds more than a decade's worth of hidden secrets, and the community is still finding new ones. This guide covers every confirmed easter egg - from the four flying saucers hidden across San Andreas to the frozen alien in the prologue, with exact conditions you need to trigger each one.
What you need to know:
- Three of the four UFOs only appear after 100% story completion
- Bigfoot is real, playable, and locked behind a hidden peyote plant chain
- The Mount Chiliad mural has been "solved" - the UFO at 3 AM in a storm is the payoff
- Two murder mysteries (Leonora Johnson and the Infinity Killer) each have 50+ clues across the map
The Four UFOs
UFO 1: Mount Chiliad (3 AM, Storm, 100%)
The most famous easter egg in GTA 5. Achieve 100% game completion, then ride the cable car to the summit of Mount Chiliad. Wait until 3:00 AM during a thunderstorm. A holographic UFO hovers directly above the observation deck.
The UFO appears pixelated and distorts nearby raindrops. It disappears if you move too close. Bullets and explosives have no effect. Use GTA 5 story mode cheats to force the storm condition if you do not want to wait for natural weather.
The cable car station wall displays a cryptic mural: a UFO, a cracked egg, and a jetpack figure. The text "Come back when your story is complete" is spray-painted in red on the observation deck - a direct instruction to finish the game first.
UFO 2: Fort Zancudo (100%, Night)
After 100% completion, fly at the maximum altitude above the Fort Zancudo military base at night. A flat, black saucer modeled loosely after the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber hovers near the flight ceiling. Text reading "SEGREGATE AND REARRANGE" is printed on its hull - an anagram of "Easter Egg."
The Fort Zancudo UFO emits an EMP that disables nearby aircraft. Trying to land on it sends players flying.
UFO 3: Sandy Shores - Beam Me Up (100%)
Above the "Beam Me Up" alien camp at the southeast edge of Sandy Shores, a flying saucer marked with FIB logos hovers at the aircraft ceiling after 100% completion. Unlike the Chiliad UFO, this one has no time or weather requirement - it is visible in daylight.
The camp below features alien face murals and a wrecked Regina car with a fake plastic UFO on its roof. One of the 50 spaceship parts collectibles is hidden just south of the "Beam Me Up" lettering.
UFO 4: Underwater off Procopio Beach (No Requirements)
The only UFO that needs no special conditions. Dive roughly 400 feet deep off the northern coast of San Andreas, northeast of Procopio Beach. A crashed flying saucer sits on the seabed, covered in seaweed. Use the Kraken submarine or scuba gear to reach it.
After the story mission "Three's Company," a Weazel News radio segment has a hiker reporting "a UFO crash into the ocean" - a direct wink at this location.
The Frozen Alien
During the opening prologue in snowy North Yankton, drive onto the frozen Ludendorff River and look through the ice under the railway bridge. An alien is frozen solid in the ice, staring upward. Approaching it fails the mission - observe from the riverbank.
50 Spaceship Parts and the Space Docker
After completing "Fame or Shame," approach Omega at the Sandy Shores airfield as Franklin. This unlocks "Far Out" and the hunt for 50 spaceship parts across San Andreas. Parts glow and hum when nearby.
After returning all 50, Omega gives Franklin the Space Docker - a dune buggy styled as a flying saucer - and the "From Beyond the Stars" achievement unlocks on all platforms.
Bigfoot and the Golden Peyote Chain
The Man in the Costume
After 100% completion, Franklin's Strangers and Freaks mission reveals that "Bigfoot" is a man in a costume. The twist plays on years of players hunting Bigfoot in GTA: San Andreas.
During the story mission "Predator," the helicopter's thermal scope reveals a heat signature in the forest matching Bigfoot's silhouette.
Playable Bigfoot via Golden Peyote
Collect all 27 standard peyote plants (each transforms the player into a random animal) and complete the Bigfoot Strangers mission. Then one golden peyote plant appears per day of the week between 5:30 AM and 8:00 AM in snowy or foggy weather. Consuming all seven in sequence triggers a confrontation with a supernatural Beast and unlocks both Bigfoot and the Beast as Director Mode characters.
The Mount Chiliad Mystery
The cable car mural drove 12 years of investigation by the r/chiliadmystery community (44,000+ members). Its symbols - the UFO, cracked egg, and jetpack figure - were read as clues to undiscovered content.
Current consensus: the mural maps to existing in-game content. The eye at the top represents the Chiliad UFO at 100%. The egg represents a secret GTA Online alien egg supply run unlocked after 600 Gunrunning resupply runs (added in the 2017 Gunrunning update). The jetpack represents the GTA Online Thruster added in the 2017 Doomsday Heist.
No jetpack has ever been found in story mode. In November 2024, former Rockstar designer Ben Hinchliffe said Rockstar sometimes places easter eggs "just to mess with people" - though he noted he did not personally build the mural. Community member Gator Keys published the widely-cited solution video in August 2025.
The same tradition of cryptic fan bait is already carrying over to GTA 6 trailer details fans have already spotted.
The Ghost of Mount Gordo
Between 11:00 PM and midnight, a pale female apparition floats above the eastern peak of Mount Gordo. The word "JOCK" is written in blood on the rocks below. She vanishes if approached.
In-game newspaper archives reveal she is Jolene Cranley-Evans, pushed off the cliff by her husband Jock Cranley - who later runs for state governor. The easter egg is woven directly into a political subplot running through the game.
The Infinity Killer
Merle Abrahams killed eight male joggers in December 1999, leaving clues across Sandy Shores:
- His house has "THERE WILL BE 8" written on the wall
- A nursery rhyme carved on a rock southeast of town describes the eight murders in sequence
- Graffiti at Bolingbroke Penitentiary points to the victims' location: "Where water meets land and fire once spewed forth, there the infinite 8 shall stay until I return"
- All eight victims are wrapped in plastic on the ocean floor near small islands north of Paleto Bay
The nursery rhyme also references the Nightmare on Elm Street villain, layering film homage into the clue trail. Abrahams died in prison before trial.
Leonora Johnson - 50 Letter Scraps
Leonora Johnson was a Vinewood actress murdered in 1975, parodying the real-world Black Dahlia case. Collect all 50 letter scraps as Franklin to reveal the killer: director Peter Dreyfuss. The mission "A Starlet in Vinewood" and the "A Mystery, Solved" trophy unlock on completion. Her star appears on the Vinewood Walk of Fame.
The LOST Hatch
An underwater hatch off the coast near San Chianski Mountain references the bunker from the TV series Lost. Faint tapping sounds decode to: "Hey, you never call, how'd you fancy going bowling?" - a callback to Roman Bellic's catchphrase from GTA IV.
Movie References
Thelma and Louise: Between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM near Raton Canyon, two women in a convertible pursued by police drive off a cliff - a scripted daily recreation of the 1991 film's ending.
No Country for Old Men: A crime scene at the western base of Mount Chiliad has wrecked trucks, dead bodies, and a $25,000 briefcase mirroring the film's botched drug deal. Taking the cash triggers an armed chase.
Back to the Future: Power boxes across the map read "1.21 GW." The Vinewood Hills cemetery is named "Hill Valley" after Marty McFly's fictional hometown.
Die Hard: Weazel Plaza in Rockford Hills is modeled on Fox Plaza - the real building used as Nakatomi Plaza in the film.
The Epsilon Program
The Epsilon Program is a Scientology and Raelism parody available as eight missions for Michael. The cult's canon states that aliens live among humans and that members may descend from "Kraff, the famous alien Emperor of the 4th Paradigm." Betraying the cult rewards $2.1 million; staying loyal rewards a rusty tractor.
