GTA 6 PC Requirements: Minimum and Recommended Specs (Our Estimate)
Rockstar hasn't announced a GTA 6 PC version, so there are no official system requirements yet. Here's our estimate for minimum and recommended specs, built from GTA 5 Enhanced's real PC requirements and the historical gap between a GTA console launch and its PC port.

GTA 6 has no official PC system requirements, because Rockstar has not confirmed a PC version at all. The game launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, and every hardware detail released so far is console-only. Everything below is our own estimate, not a leaked or official spec sheet - built by comparing GTA 6 to the actual PC requirements Rockstar shipped for GTA 5 Enhanced, and to the historical gap between a Grand Theft Auto console launch and its PC port.
The essentials
- GTA 6 has no confirmed PC release date and no official PC system requirements as of today.
- Historical pattern: GTA 5 took about 19 months to reach PC after its console launch; Red Dead Redemption 2 took about 13 months.
- Our minimum-spec estimate: a GPU around an RTX 3060 / RX 6600 class, a 6-core CPU, and 16GB of RAM.
- Our recommended-spec estimate: an RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT class GPU, 32GB of RAM, and a fast NVMe SSD.
- Expect a large install size, likely well above GTA 5's 105GB, and an SSD that stops being optional.
Is GTA 6 even confirmed for PC?
No. Rockstar's own announcements name only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for the November 19, 2026 launch. There is no PC storefront page, no Steam listing, and no PC release window. We cover the platform question in more detail in GTA 6 PC Release Date: When Will It Hit Steam and Epic? and in GTA 6 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One: The Truth About Platforms. Both explain why a PC edition is very likely eventually, just not at launch.
That absence of an announcement is exactly why this article exists: players are already searching for "GTA 6 PC requirements" and "can my PC run GTA 6" a full year or more before Rockstar will have an answer. What follows is a methodology-based estimate, clearly labeled as such, so you can start planning a PC upgrade without mistaking a guess for a confirmed spec sheet.
Why Rockstar hasn't published PC specs yet
Rockstar has shipped every mainline Grand Theft Auto game on consoles first and PC later, and GTA 6 is following the same pattern so far:
- GTA 5: consoles in September 2013, PC in April 2015 (about 19 months later).
- GTA 5 on PS4/Xbox One: November 2014, roughly 5 months ahead of PC.
- Red Dead Redemption 2: consoles in October 2018, PC in November 2019 (about 13 months later).
Rockstar's PC ports are not simple ports: they typically add features the console version doesn't have at launch, like the ray-traced ambient occlusion, global illumination, shadows and reflections that arrived with GTA 5 Enhanced on PC. Building and testing that extra tier of visual fidelity, on the huge range of PC hardware configurations, takes time Rockstar doesn't need for the fixed console specs. Publishing PC requirements before that work is finished would just create a spec sheet Rockstar has to walk back later.
How we built this estimate
We didn't guess at random numbers. The estimate below comes from three inputs:
- GTA 5 Enhanced's real PC requirements, published by Rockstar for the current-generation ray tracing update, as our baseline for what a Rockstar open-world game asks of a PC today.
- The console generation GTA 6 targets. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are roughly equivalent, in raw compute terms, to a mid-range gaming PC from around 2020-2021. A PC version built to match or exceed the console experience needs to clear that bar at minimum.
- The scope increase. GTA 6's map, NPC density and simulation systems are a generational step up from GTA 5, and the game is designed around ray tracing from the ground up rather than retrofitted onto it years later. That points to higher requirements across the board than GTA 5 Enhanced, not the same ones.
None of this is a leak. It's the same kind of extrapolation hardware reviewers run for every unreleased PC port, and we're labeling every number as an estimate for that reason.
GTA 6 PC requirements: our minimum estimate
This is what we expect the "will it run at all, at low settings and 1080p" tier to look like:
| Component | Our minimum estimate |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10/11, 64-bit |
| CPU | 6-core, Ryzen 5 3600 / Core i5-10400 class or better |
| GPU | RTX 3060 / RX 6600 class or better |
| RAM | 16GB |
| Storage | NVMe SSD strongly recommended, 150GB+ free space |
| DirectX | 12 |
GTA 6 PC requirements: our recommended estimate
This is our estimate for a smooth 1440p experience with ray tracing enabled:
| Component | Our recommended estimate |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 11, 64-bit |
| CPU | 8-core, Ryzen 7 5700X / Core i7-12700 class or better |
| GPU | RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT class or better |
| RAM | 32GB |
| Storage | NVMe SSD, 150-200GB free space |
| DirectX | 12 Ultimate |
If you want to see how a Rockstar open-world game actually performs on real hardware today, our breakdown of GTA 5's 2013 graphics is a useful reminder of how far the baseline has already moved once, and why it's about to move again.
Storage, RAM and SSD: what to actually expect
GTA 5 needs about 105GB on PC. GTA 6's map is reported to be substantially larger, with denser detail, more voice-acted NPCs and higher-resolution textures across the board. An install size north of 150GB, possibly closer to 200GB with day-one patches, is a reasonable planning number - reserve the space now rather than scrambling for it at launch.
RAM and storage speed matter more than they used to. Modern open-world engines stream assets continuously as you move through the world, and a mechanical hard drive - or even a slow SATA SSD - can cause texture pop-in and stutter that no GPU upgrade fixes. Budgeting for an NVMe SSD isn't overkill for GTA 6; it's the same lesson GTA 5 Enhanced already taught PC players.
Ray tracing, DLSS and FSR: will GTA 6 support them on PC?
Almost certainly, given that GTA 5 Enhanced already added ray-traced ambient occlusion, global illumination, shadows and reflections to a twelve-year-old game on PC, plus DLSS and FSR upscaling. A game built around next-generation consoles from day one has every incentive to ship with the same feature set, likely with a deeper implementation since it won't be retrofitted onto older art assets.
That also means the recommended-tier GPUs above assume ray tracing turned on. If Rockstar ships a rasterization-only "performance" preset like the one already discussed for consoles, PC requirements at the low end could end up lower than our estimate for players willing to turn ray tracing off. We track the console side of that debate in GTA 6 at 30 FPS or 60 FPS? What the Rumors Say About PS5 and Xbox Series Graphics Modes.
When might Rockstar confirm official PC specs?
Based on the GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 timelines, official PC requirements typically surface a few months before the PC release itself, not right after the console launch. If GTA 6 follows the same 13-to-19-month gap, expect an official announcement, and a real spec sheet, sometime in late 2027 or 2028 at the earliest. We'll update this article the moment Rockstar publishes anything concrete.
What to do while you wait
There's no PC hardware purchase that needs to happen today. If you're set on playing GTA 6 at launch, the console decision is the one that actually matters right now; see PS5 or PS5 Pro: Which Console Should You Buy for GTA 6? for that comparison. If you're a PC player planning ahead, treat the numbers above as a budget target for a build over the next year or two, not a shopping list to complete this week - by the time Rockstar confirms a PC version, GPU pricing and the available hardware tiers will both have moved.
