GTA 6 PC Release Date: When Will It Hit Steam and Epic? (Estimate)
There is no official GTA 6 PC release date yet. Based on Rockstar's history and analyst estimates, here is when the Steam and Epic version is realistically expected.

It is the question every PC gamer is asking, so here is the honest answer up front: there is no official GTA 6 PC release date. As of June 2026, Rockstar Games has not announced a PC version, has not opened a single PC pre-order, and has not put up a Steam or Epic Games Store page. What exists instead is a firm console date, a long and consistent history of Rockstar making PC players wait, and a few telling comments from Take-Two's CEO. Stitch those together and a realistic window appears: the PC version of GTA 6 is most likely to land somewhere between late 2027 and mid-2028, with Q4 2027 the single most commonly cited estimate. Below is everything that estimate rests on, and why no one can hand you a firm date today.
The short answer
- Official PC release date: none. Not announced, not dated, not even confirmed as a product yet.
- Console launch: November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only.
- Steam, Epic and Rockstar Launcher: no page, no listing, no system requirements, no PC pre-order anywhere as of June 2026.
- Pre-orders (open June 25, 2026): PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store only.
- Realistic PC estimate: late 2027 to mid-2028. Most cited single guess: Q4 2027 (September to December).
- Is PC even coming? Almost certainly, but that is read from Rockstar's track record, not an official promise.
Everything past the console date is an estimate. Treat any site claiming a confirmed GTA 6 PC date as wrong until Rockstar says otherwise.
What Rockstar and Take-Two have actually said
Rockstar's own announcements are short on PC detail, on purpose. The launch reveal and the pre-order newswire both name only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the pre-order post tells players to "add Grand Theft Auto VI to your wishlist today on the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store." No PC storefront is mentioned anywhere.
The clearest signal comes from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. Speaking to Bloomberg in May 2026, he explained why GTA 6 starts on console: "Rockstar always starts on console because ... you're judged by serving the core. If your core consumer isn't there, if they're not served first and best, you kind of don't hit your other consumers." Outlets including VGC and TechRadar read this the same way: there are no plans for a simultaneous PC launch.
Two more things from Zelnick matter for PC players. First, he explicitly denied that a platform-exclusivity deal with Sony is behind the console-first plan; he put it down to Rockstar's own go-to-market strategy. Second, on Take-Two's earnings call he signaled, without ever committing to a date, that a PC version is a question of when, not if: "the PC market is a great market," "virtually all of our hit titles end up on all platforms over time," and GTA 6 is "announced for console only so far." So far. That phrasing is the closest thing to PC confirmation that exists, and it is still not a confirmation.
There is no Steam or Epic page, and that is a clue
It is worth saying plainly: as of June 2026 there is no GTA 6 Steam page, no Epic Games Store listing, no Rockstar Launcher entry, and no published PC system requirements. Independent outlets from PCGamesN to GamesRadar have checked and found the same nothing.
That absence is itself information. When a PC version is genuinely close, a "Coming Soon" Steam page and a set of system requirements usually appear months in advance. None of that has happened. It does not mean a PC build is not in the works somewhere inside Rockstar, but it strongly suggests a PC launch is not just around the corner.
How long Rockstar usually makes PC players wait
Rockstar has a well-worn pattern of releasing on console first and bringing the PC version along later. Here is the track record:
| Game | Console launch | PC launch | Wait |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA IV | April 2008 | December 2008 | about 8 months |
| GTA V | September 2013 | April 2015 | about 18 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 2018 | November 2019 | about 13 months |
A couple of honest caveats. GTA IV's eight-month gap is the outlier and well below Rockstar's modern pace. GTA V's gap looks like 18 months from the original 2013 console release, but only about 5 months if you measure from the 2014 PS4 and Xbox One re-release. The fair summary that most outlets use is a gap of roughly 12 to 24 months for Rockstar's recent big releases.
So when does GTA 6 reach PC? Our estimate
Apply that pattern to a November 19, 2026 console launch:
- At Red Dead Redemption 2's pace (about 13 months), PC lands around December 2027.
- At GTA V's pace (about 18 months), PC lands around May to June 2028.
That brackets the window almost every analyst is using: late 2027 to mid-2028. Insider Gaming, citing well-known industry insider Tom Henderson, points specifically at fall 2027, and says it expects "GTA 6 will not release on PC until later into 2027, possibly even into 2028." Across outlets, the single most repeated estimate is Q4 2027, that is, September to December 2027, usually labeled clearly as a projection rather than a Rockstar commitment.
Our take: a holiday 2027 PC release is the most plausible single bet, with the first half of 2028 the realistic fallback if Rockstar takes its GTA V-era time. Anyone promising you a specific day is guessing.
The February 2027 rumor, and why to be skeptical
One more aggressive claim deserves a mention, mostly so you can put it in context. A leaker known as DetectiveSeeds has suggested the PC version could be ready as early as February 2027, roughly three months after the console launch. The same rumor mill points to a tipster who reportedly contacted former Rockstar staff, a few of whom mentioned a "before end of fiscal year" target.
Treat this as an unverified rumor, not a date. A three-month console-to-PC turnaround would be completely unprecedented for Rockstar, whose fastest modern gap is the eight months of GTA IV and whose recent norm is over a year. The leaker's own track record is described as hit or miss. It is possible, but it is the least likely of all the estimates, and we are flagging it as a rumor, not reporting it as news.
Steam, Epic, or Rockstar Launcher: which store will GTA 6 use?
Short version: Rockstar has not said. If history is any guide, its recent PC releases have ended up across the Rockstar Store, Steam and the Epic Games Store, though not always at the same time. Red Dead Redemption 2, for example, arrived on the Rockstar and Epic stores first and reached Steam roughly a year later.
For GTA 6, the storefront line-up and the order of release are both unconfirmed. Expect Rockstar's own store to be involved, and expect Steam and Epic to follow at some point, but do not assume a specific store will be first. We will update this section the moment a real listing appears.
Why does Rockstar always make PC players wait?
It is not laziness, and it is probably not really about a Sony deal. A few reasons line up:
- The core audience is on console. As Zelnick said, Rockstar wants its biggest, most predictable audience served "first and best" at launch. Consoles are fixed hardware, which makes the launch easier to control.
- A second sales wave. A later PC release lets Rockstar sell GTA 6 a second time to a fresh audience, often alongside a graphical upgrade, well after the initial console rush.
- PC is hard to optimize. Consoles are one spec each; PCs are millions of hardware combinations. A polished PC port that does not become a "worst-reviewed launch" headline takes time.
- Protecting the launch window. Staggering platforms keeps the launch conversation focused and protects the all-important first months of sales and online revenue.
Will the November 19, 2026 console date even hold?
This matters for the PC estimate, because every PC guess is anchored to the console launch. And that console date has already moved more than once: GTA 6 was first expected in 2025, then targeted for May 26, 2026, and finally set to November 19, 2026. Rockstar has a long history of delaying for polish. If the console date slips again, every PC estimate on this page slides back with it.
What PC players should do right now
- Do not "pre-order" GTA 6 on PC anywhere. There is no official PC pre-order. Any page claiming to take your money for a PC copy today should be treated as a placeholder at best and a scam at worst.
- Wishlist nothing on PC yet, because no official Steam or Epic page exists to wishlist.
- Watch for the real signal: the first official Steam or Epic "Coming Soon" page and a set of PC system requirements. That is when the estimate becomes a date.
- If you cannot wait, the console version is the only confirmed way to play at launch. Our GTA 6 pre-order guide covers prices, editions and where to buy.
The bottom line
There is no GTA 6 PC release date, and there will not be one until Rockstar decides to give it. Based on the company's own history and the current analyst consensus, the realistic window is late 2027 to mid-2028, with Q4 2027 the most likely single target. Everything sooner is a rumor, and everything firmer is a guess. We will update this article the moment Rockstar announces a PC version, a Steam or Epic page, or system requirements.
