GTA 6 Weapon Customization: Suppressors, Sights and Flashlights in the Extended Look

GTA 6's weapons are no longer just a list of guns with a fire rate and a damage stat. The Extended Look trailer, released by Rockstar Games in 2026, shows a full weapon customization system built on top of the studio's Red Dead Redemption 2 work: suppressors, optics, foregrips, flashlights and even a full-auto switch on at least one pistol. Here is everything the footage actually confirms, and what is still an educated guess.

The essentials

  • Suppressors (silencers) are visible on an AR-pattern pistol and on other guns across the Extended Look footage.
  • Red dot sights and scopes appear on multiple assault rifles, including two variants of an M4-style carbine.
  • Foregrips, vertical grips and different stock options are shown, echoing Red Dead Redemption 2's weapon customization depth.
  • Flashlights are confirmed as an equippable item on the weapon wheel, separate from the guns themselves.
  • A Glock-style pistol appears to include a full-auto switch, an attachment that changes how the weapon fires rather than just how it looks.
  • Ammu-Nation (shown as "Phil's Ammu-Nation") returns as the store where weapons are bought, stored in gun cabinets, and presumably customized.

What the Extended Look actually shows

Rockstar's Extended Look is the deepest gameplay footage released for GTA 6 so far, and weapons get more screen time than in any previous trailer. The clearest example is a suppressed AR-pattern pistol Jason pulls during an apartment robbery gone wrong: no shoulder stock, a pistol buffer tube at the rear, and a visible suppressor threaded onto the barrel. It is the first time the series has shown a subsonic-style setup this explicitly outside of GTA Online's DLC weapons.

Multiple AK-pattern rifles and two shotguns also appear through the trailer, alongside several semi-automatic pistols. The named weapon so far is the Duke 556, an AR-pattern rifle Jason grabs off an enemy mid-firefight in a dark high-rise office, in one of the smoothest weapon-swap animations Rockstar has shown for the series. On the SMG side, an MP5-style gun shows up during a bank robbery sequence with both protagonists, and Jason's version carries a red dot sight that other footage does not show on Lucia's copy, suggesting sights are an equipped upgrade rather than a fixed model variant.

How this compares to GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2

GTA 5 let you buy tints, grips, extended clips, suppressors and scopes at Ammu-Nation, but the options were shallow: a handful of fixed presets per weapon, no visual layering, and almost no effect on the gun's handling beyond the obvious (suppressors mute the sound, extended clips hold more rounds). Red Dead Redemption 2 went much further, letting players build a gun out of individually chosen parts - barrel, grip, sights - each affecting stats like accuracy, range and reload speed, not just appearance.

GTA 6's footage points at the RDR2 model, not the GTA 5 one. Rockstar shows layered attachments (stock plus grip plus optic plus muzzle device, all visible at once rather than picked from a single dropdown), weapon tints as a separate customization axis from attachments, and at least one functional modification (the full-auto switch) that changes the way a weapon behaves, not just how it looks. That is a meaningfully deeper system than anything the GTA series has shipped before.

Where you'll actually customize weapons

Ammu-Nation is confirmed as the hub for buying and modifying guns, exactly as in GTA 5 and GTA Online, but the storage model has changed. Rather than a bottomless weapon wheel, the new limited weapon wheel caps how much you can physically carry - two rifles and two pistols at a time in the footage shown so far - with everything else kept in gun cabinets at Ammu-Nation or in the trunk of your car. That storage change makes customization choices matter more: if you can only carry one AR at a time, whether it has a suppressor, a scope, or a flashlight becomes a real loadout decision rather than a cosmetic afterthought.

It also connects to how weapon looting and swapping works on the ground - the Extended Look shows Jason picking up an enemy's Duke 556 mid-fight, attachments and all, which means the gun you find in a firefight can already come pre-modified by whoever was carrying it.

This table will keep growing as Rockstar releases more footage between now and launch - it reflects only what is visible in currently released trailers, not leaks or datamines, in line with our policy on unverified GTA 6 content.

Why the switch to visible, layered attachments matters

In GTA 5, buying a suppressor or a scope from Ammu-Nation was a menu transaction: pick the upgrade, pay, and the gun's model updated with almost no in-world weight to the choice. GTA 6's footage treats attachments as part of the character's kit the way clothing already is - visible on the model during cutscenes and gameplay alike, and apparently persistent when a gun changes hands (the Duke 556 Jason grabs mid-firefight keeps whatever setup the previous owner had). That has two knock-on effects worth watching for at launch: encounters may play differently depending on what an enemy is carrying, and looting a rival's rifle becomes a small risk/reward decision rather than just a free upgrade.

It also lines up with Rockstar's broader combat pitch for GTA 6: smoother weapon pickups, one-handed firing for some guns, and a genuinely limited loadout instead of GTA 5's bottomless arsenal. Attachments are the layer that makes those two-gun, two-rifle limits interesting - a suppressed pistol and an unsuppressed rifle cover very different situations, and with only four total guns on hand at once, which version of each gun you are carrying starts to matter as much as which gun it is.

What's still unknown

Rockstar has not confirmed the exact list of attachment slots, whether every gun supports every attachment type, or how deep the tint/finish system goes beyond what the Ultimate Edition's special revolvers hint at. It is also unclear whether attachments will be found as loot (like the pre-modified guns you can pick up from enemies) or purchased and installed exclusively at Ammu-Nation. Until Rockstar shows an actual customization menu, all of this is inference from trailer footage, not a confirmed feature list - treat anything more specific than what is shown above as speculation.

Frequently asked questions

Does GTA 6 have gun customization? Yes. The Extended Look trailer confirms suppressors, sights, grips and a functional full-auto switch on at least one weapon, all shown in gameplay footage rather than a menu screen.

Can you put a silencer on every gun in GTA 6? Not confirmed. The only suppressor shown so far is on an AR-pattern pistol; Rockstar has not revealed which weapons support which attachments.

Where do you customize weapons in GTA 6? Ammu-Nation, which returns as "Phil's Ammu-Nation" and also stores your unequipped guns in gun cabinets.

Is GTA 6's weapon system based on Red Dead Redemption 2? The footage strongly suggests it: layered, visible attachments and at least one performance-affecting modification, which goes beyond GTA 5's preset-based system.
