Standard or Ultimate: Which GTA 6 Edition Should You Buy?

Buy the Standard Edition unless you already know you want the extras. Grand Theft Auto VI comes in exactly two editions: Standard at $79.99 (79.99 EUR) and Ultimate at $99.99 (99.99 EUR). Both contain the same full game, the same story and the same map of Leonida. The $20 difference buys in-game content: exclusive vehicles, weapons, a garage, five shops and two extra missions. Since an Ultimate upgrade is sold separately, starting on Standard never locks you out. Prices and contents below were checked on October 27, 2026, three weeks before the November 19 launch.

The essentials

• Two editions: Standard ($79.99) and Ultimate ($99.99). There is no Deluxe edition.
• Same game in both. The Ultimate adds content, not a better version of the game.
• Ultimate exclusives: vehicles, two weapon sets, the Paradise Garage, five shops (Rideout Customs, One-Eyed Willie's, Sara's Unisex Salon, Stock 305, Electric Fang Tattoo) and two exclusive missions.
• Upgrade later: the Ultimate Edition Upgrade is sold as an add-on on the PlayStation Store, so Standard is a safe default.
• Pre-order bonus for everyone: the Vintage Vice City Pack, on any edition bought before November 20, 2026, plus a free month of GTA+ with digital pre-orders.
• No collector's edition of the game. Rockstar's $399.99 "Goodtime State - Vice City Collection" is a merchandise box, and the game is sold separately.
• Platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. No PC version has been announced.

Standard vs Ultimate at a glance

What the Standard Edition gives you

The Standard Edition is the complete game: the entire campaign with Jason and Lucia, the full state of Leonida and everything Rockstar describes as "a single player experience." Nothing in the story is cut. If you pre-order or buy before November 20, you also get the Vintage Vice City Pack, exactly like Ultimate buyers.

Buy Standard if you play for the story and the world, you are watching your budget, or you are not sure yet. You can upgrade later.

What the extra $20 buys in the Ultimate Edition

Rockstar describes the Ultimate Edition as "an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story." In practice, the content unlocks as you progress through the chapters rather than all at once. It includes:

• Vehicles: the '95 Grotti Cheetah, the '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy, the Shitzu Squalo boat, and Jason's safehouse vehicles (a Dinka Enduro motorcycle and a Crest kayak).
• Weapons: the Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers, and personalized pistols for both protagonists.
• Garage and mods: the Paradise Garage in Watson Bay, a Ganado Retro Build modkit for Jason's pickup, and two mod shops, Rideout Customs and One-Eyed Willie's.
• Shops: Sara's Unisex Salon, the Stock 305 clothing store and Electric Fang Tattoo.
• Two exclusive missions: a raid on the PTT Youngin$ compound, and Wyman's Classic Car Collection, a special commission to track down and restore classic cars. We detail the second in our Wyman's Classic Car Collection guide.
• Style: exclusive outfits, tattoos and the Goodtime Gear apparel line.

The shops are the part that has drawn the most criticism, because they sit inside the single-player world. We look at what that means in practice in GTA 6's Ultimate-only shops explained.

Buy Ultimate if you know you will spend a long time in Leonida, you love customizing cars and characters, or you want every mission from day one.

Can you upgrade from Standard to Ultimate later?

Yes. An Ultimate Edition Upgrade is listed as an add-on for the base game on the PlayStation Store, so you can start on Standard and pay for the extras later if the game hooks you. Its price was not shown when the listing first appeared; the gap between the two editions is $20. Some retailers have even bundled the Standard Edition with store credit toward the upgrade.

Is there a GTA 6 Collector's Edition?

Not of the game. On September 24, 2026, Rockstar opened pre-orders for The Goodtime State - Vice City Collection, which it calls a "premium Collector's Box": 11 Leonida-themed items including a Macca the Gator figure, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, a New Era cap and a souvenir map poster. It costs $399.99 on the Rockstar Store, ships on November 19, and Rockstar's own listing says it plainly: "Grand Theft Auto VI game sold separately." Our Collector's Box breakdown lists every item.

So if you want a collector's set and the game, you are buying two products. The placeholder listings that circulated at a French retailer earlier in the year (five PS5 prices, up to 199.99 EUR) never turned into a collector's edition.

Is there a Deluxe Edition?

No. Many games ship a Standard, a Deluxe and a Collector's tier. GTA 6 has only Standard and Ultimate. A "GTA 6 Deluxe" listing is a mislabel or a placeholder.

Physical or digital?

The physical edition is a box with a download code, not a disc, and goes on sale on November 12, 2026 so boxed buyers can pre-load alongside digital players. That means no resale and no lending a disc. The download is the same either way, so check our file size and storage guide before pre-load opens. Digital has two advantages: the free GTA+ month with digital pre-orders, and the simplest path to the Ultimate upgrade.

Is there a PC edition?

No. Rockstar sells GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and no PC version has been announced. If you play on PC, read when GTA 6 could reach PC before buying anything that claims to be a PC edition.

Which GTA 6 edition should you buy?

• You want the story and the world: Standard. You are not missing any of the main game.
• You will play for hundreds of hours: Ultimate. The garage, shops and missions pay off over a long run.
• You are undecided: Standard before November 20 to keep the Vintage Vice City Pack, then upgrade if you want more.
• You collect boxes: the game is still a code in a box; the $399.99 Collector's Box is merchandise only.

GTA 6 editions FAQ

How much is GTA 6? $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. In France, the PlayStation Store lists the Standard Edition at 79.99 EUR.

Is the Ultimate Edition worth it? Only if you want the extra content. It does not change the story, the map or performance.

Do Ultimate missions change the story? They are extra missions. Rockstar has not said they affect the main plot.

Does the Collector's Box include the game? No. Rockstar's listing says the game is sold separately.

Is the pre-order bonus in both editions? Yes. The Vintage Vice City Pack comes with any edition bought before November 20, 2026.

Is there a disc? No. Even the physical box contains a download code.
