How to Avoid GTA 6 Spoilers Before and After the November 19 Launch
GTA 6 spoilers will flood the internet around November 19. Here is how to mute keywords on X, TikTok and Instagram, tame YouTube and Reddit, and set up your PS5 to protect your first playthrough.

GTA 6 unlocks on November 19, 2026, and for the next few weeks the internet will be one giant spoiler. Clips of the ending, screenshots of late missions, thumbnails that give away a twist: it all spreads in hours. The good news is that you can protect your first playthrough with about 20 minutes of setup. This guide covers every filter worth turning on, platform by platform, before and after launch.
The essentials
- Mute keywords on X, Threads, Bluesky, TikTok and Instagram before launch week: "GTA 6", "GTA VI", "Jason", "Lucia", "Vice City", "Leonida" and "#GTA6".
- Leave or mute the big subreddits and Discord channels until you finish the story.
- Turn off YouTube autoplay and pause your watch history so the algorithm stops serving GTA thumbnails.
- Enable Spoiler Warnings on PS5 (Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Spoiler Warnings).
- Be extra careful in the days before November 19: with every big release, story footage tends to appear before the official date. Treat any unofficial video as a spoiler.
- Set a personal "safe date" for when you expect to finish the story, and keep your filters on until then.
Why GTA 6 is a spoiler minefield
Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most anticipated entertainment launches ever, and that means two things: millions of players finishing the story at very different speeds, and millions of creators racing to post about it first. Rockstar has only shown the game through official trailers and previews, so almost everything about the plot of Jason and Lucia is still unknown to the public. If you want the full picture of what is officially known, our no-spoiler story explainer sticks strictly to the trailers.
History says the risk starts before launch day, not after. When The Last of Us Part II leaked in April 2020, story scenes circulated weeks before release and fans had to stay off social media to avoid them. With big releases, a few copies also tend to reach buyers before the official date. Our advice is simple: from early November, assume that any GTA 6 video that does not come from Rockstar's own channels could contain story content, and do not click it.
After launch, the danger changes shape. It is no longer a single leak but a flood: "I finished GTA 6, here's the ending" reaction videos, wiki pages, memes that quote late-game lines, and thumbnails designed to make you click. Rockstar's previous games were long (Red Dead Redemption 2 takes around 50 hours for the main story), so most players will still be mid-campaign when the ending becomes common knowledge. Our GTA 6 length estimate can help you guess how long you will need to stay careful.
Step 1: Mute the right keywords
Keyword muting is your strongest tool, because it works even on posts from people you follow. Build one list and reuse it everywhere:
| Type | Words to mute |
|---|---|
| Game names | GTA 6, GTA VI, GTA6, GTAVI, Grand Theft Auto 6 |
| Hashtags | #GTA6, #GTAVI, #GTA6Spoilers |
| Characters | Jason, Lucia, plus any other names from the official character list |
| Places | Vice City, Leonida |
| Danger words | GTA 6 ending, GTA 6 spoilers, GTA 6 final mission |
Muting "Jason" will also hide unrelated posts about people named Jason. That is the price of a clean feed for a few weeks.
X (Twitter)
Go to Settings and privacy > Privacy and safety > Mute and block > Muted words, then add each word. For each entry, choose to mute it in your Home timeline and notifications, and set the duration to "Until you unmute the word" or 30 days. Add the hashtags as separate entries.
Threads and Instagram
Instagram's Hidden Words feature (Settings > Hidden Words) filters comments and message requests that contain your words, and Threads has its own Hidden Words setting for replies. Neither fully cleans the main feed, so also tap "Not interested" on any GTA post you see in the first days. The algorithm learns quickly.
TikTok
TikTok has a keyword filter for the For You and Following feeds: Settings and privacy > Content preferences > Filter keywords. Add your list there. TikTok is where spoiler clips spread fastest, so this one matters most.
Bluesky
Bluesky lets you mute words and tags from Settings > Moderation > Mute words and tags, with a choice between the text of a post and its tags.
Step 2: Handle YouTube, Reddit and Discord
YouTube
YouTube has no keyword filter for titles and thumbnails, which makes it the riskiest platform. Three habits help:
- Turn off autoplay so you never land on a random "GTA 6 ending explained" video.
- Pause your watch history (in your account's history settings) before launch, so watching one trailer does not fill your homepage with GTA content.
- Use "Don't recommend channel" on GTA-focused channels for the next few weeks, then undo it once you finish the game.
Avoid YouTube search entirely while you play. Search suggestions themselves can spoil a twist.
Reddit's spoiler tags blur posts marked as spoilers, but not everyone uses them, and titles are often the problem. The safe option is to leave or mute the GTA subreddits (Settings > Preferences > Muted communities on desktop, or the community's menu on mobile) until you finish. If you need help with a mission, search for a specific question rather than browsing the front page of a subreddit.
Discord
On any server with a GTA channel, right-click the channel and mute it, or hide muted channels. Ask your friends' server to use spoiler tags (text wrapped in || is hidden until clicked), and suggest a dedicated spoiler channel. Most communities set one up within hours of a big launch.
Step 3: Set up your console
PS5
The PS5 has a built-in Spoiler Warnings setting: Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Spoiler Warnings, then turn on "Warn About Game Spoilers". It hides or flags screenshots and videos shared by friends from parts of a game you have not reached yet, when the developer supports it. It does not filter social media, so it is a complement, not a replacement.
While you are there, check that the game is ready to play the moment it unlocks: our console pre-launch checklist and the preload guide cover storage, downloads and updates.
Xbox Series X|S
Xbox has no equivalent spoiler filter that we know of. Limit what you see by turning off notifications from friends' shared captures and by avoiding the community feed and Clubs for GTA 6 until you are done.
Step 4: Before November 19
The days just before launch are the most dangerous for unofficial footage, because there is no official story content yet and anything you see from the campaign comes from outside Rockstar. A few simple rules:
- Stick to official sources. Rockstar's own trailers and announcements are spoiler-safe by design. Anything else showing late missions is not.
- Do not open "is this real?" posts. Their whole purpose is to make you look.
- Turn on your filters on November 12 at the latest, a week before launch, not on launch night.
- Know your exact unlock time so you are not tempted to scroll while you wait. The game unlocks at midnight in your store's time zone; our release time guide lists every region.
Step 5: After launch, until you finish
Once the game is out, the goal is to reach the credits before the internet ruins them.
- Pick a "safe date" based on how much you play per week and keep every filter on until then.
- Ask friends directly not to talk about specific missions in group chats. Most people respect a clear request.
- Be careful with guides. When you look for help, prefer guides for a specific mission or collectible and avoid pages with full walkthroughs in the sidebar.
- Avoid wikis. Character pages on fan wikis often reveal a character's fate in the first line.
- Do not read comment sections under any GTA 6 article or video, including the harmless ones.
- Watch out for game streams. A streamer at a later chapter will spoil you in seconds, even if you only open the stream for a moment.
What to do if you get spoiled anyway
It happens. A thumbnail slips through, a friend talks too fast, a meme shows a late-game scene. Two things to keep in mind:
- A single detail rarely spoils a whole game. Rockstar stories are long and built on many moments, so knowing one twist does not tell you how you get there.
- Do not go looking for confirmation. The instinct after seeing a spoiler is to search whether it is true. That search is how one spoiler becomes ten.
Then tighten your filters, add any new words you saw, and get back in the game.
FAQ
How long will I need to avoid GTA 6 spoilers?
Until you finish the story. Rockstar's recent games had main stories of 30 to 50+ hours, so for most players that means two to six weeks after November 19.
Is it safe to watch GTA 6 trailers?
Yes. The official trailers were made by Rockstar to be watched before release and are spoiler-safe by design. Reaction and breakdown videos from other channels are a different matter after launch.
Do spoiler tags on Reddit protect me?
Partly. They blur the post body, but titles and comments can still spoil you. Muting the subreddits is safer.
Does muting words work on every app?
No. X, TikTok and Bluesky filter feeds by keyword; Instagram and Threads mainly filter comments and replies; YouTube has no keyword filter at all. Combine muting with avoidance habits for full protection.
