GTA 6 Release Time: What Time It Unlocks in Every Timezone

GTA 6 launches on Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and it unlocks at midnight local time in each store region, not at one worldwide instant. That is the release time the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store both list for the game. One catch matters in big countries: the US, Canada and Australia each have a single store, set to one time zone, so players in their western zones get the game on the evening of November 18. Here is what that means for your timezone, plus what to do between now and launch day.

The essentials

• Release date: Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
• Unlock rule: midnight local time in each store region, from New Zealand first (11:00 UTC on November 18) to Mexico last (06:00 UTC on November 19).
• US and Canada: one store each, on Eastern time. Midnight in New York and Toronto, 9:00 PM on November 18 in Los Angeles and Vancouver.
• UK and Europe: midnight local time on November 19, in London as in Paris, Berlin or Madrid.
• Digital preload: opens November 12, 2026, one week ahead of launch.
• Official status: Rockstar has not announced an unlock hour. The times below are the store listings' own release times, which can still change before launch.
• No PC version has been announced alongside the console release.

When does GTA 6 release?

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick reaffirmed November 19, 2026 during the company's Q4 fiscal 2026 earnings call, and Rockstar Games locked the date on its own newswire after two prior delays. It's now baked into Take-Two's official financial guidance, pre-orders are live, and Rockstar has already published cover art as part of its summer marketing push, all signals of a date that isn't moving again. For the full backstory on how the date got here, see our GTA 6 release date recap.

What time does GTA 6 unlock in your timezone?

Each PlayStation Store region lists its own release time for GTA 6, and every region we checked on October 17, 2026 falls at midnight in that store's time zone. The Xbox Store lists the same times for the US, the UK and France. Where one store covers several time zones, the whole country gets the game at once, on the store's clock:

If your country isn't listed, the rule of thumb is midnight on November 19 in your own store's time zone. The exceptions are the countries that share one store across several zones: there, take the store's midnight and convert it to your local time.

Is GTA 6 a midnight release or a global unlock?

It's a midnight release, store by store. The game goes live as each store region reaches midnight on November 19, so it rolls around the world for about 19 hours: New Zealand gets it first, then Australia and Asia, then Europe, and the Americas last. Australian and Japanese players will be playing hours before anyone in the US.

The "5:00 AM UTC worldwide" time that circulated before launch is the US store's release time, midnight in New York, read from a US store page. It was never a worldwide time: in London the game unlocks at midnight, five hours earlier, and in Paris at midnight local, which is 11:00 PM UTC on November 18.

How to prepare for the countdown

With the date locked and pre-orders live, the run-up to November 19 is really a checklist:

• Preload on November 12. Digital pre-order customers can start downloading a full week early, so the unlock moment is just an unlock, not a multi-hour download.
• Free up storage now. GTA games have grown enormous; clear space on your PS5 or Xbox well before preload week rather than scrambling that morning. Our pre-launch console checklist walks through storage, firmware, and account steps.
• Decide on an edition early. Standard and Ultimate carry different bonus content and price points, and pre-order bonuses like the Vintage Vice City Pack are tied to ordering before launch. Compare them in our GTA 6 edition guide.
• Know where you're buying. Pre-orders are rolling out across the Rockstar Store, PlayStation Store, Xbox/Microsoft Store, and major retailers; see our pre-order guide for the current list.
• Set your alarm for your store's midnight. For most of the world that is simply midnight on November 19. In the western US and Canada it is 9:00 PM Pacific on November 18, and in Perth it is 9:00 PM on November 18. Use the table above to set the right local time.

GTA 6 release date and time FAQ

Is this official? Rockstar has not announced an unlock hour. The times above are the release times the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store list for each region, read on October 17, 2026. The PlayStation Store's edition listings also include a 7-day preload, which matches the November 12 preload date.

Will the unlock time change? It can: the store listings can still be edited before launch. If they move, we'll update the table above rather than publish a new page.

Does PC get the same release time? No PC version has been announced for launch day. If Rockstar follows the GTA 5 pattern, PC would arrive separately, well after the console launch. See our GTA 6 PC release estimate for context.

Where does the story take place? The countdown is for the full state of Leonida, including Vice City. If you want the geography before you land, our GTA 6 map guide covers all six confirmed regions.

Correction, October 17, 2026: an earlier version of this page said GTA 6 unlocks worldwide at the same instant, 5:00 AM UTC. That is only the US store's release time; each store region unlocks at its own midnight.
