GTA 5 Trophies and Achievements: The Complete List and Platinum Guide

GTA 5 has 78 trophies on PlayStation: 1 Platinum, 3 Gold, 15 Silver and 59 Bronze. On Xbox and PC the same content is split into 77 Achievements, since there is no platform-wide equivalent to a Platinum trophy outside PlayStation. Nine of them are missable, one requires a Rank 100 grind of nearly 1.6 million RP in GTA Online, and only about 5% of PlayStation players ever finish the full set.

The essentials:

  • 78 PlayStation trophies (1 Platinum, 3 Gold, 15 Silver, 59 Bronze) versus 77 Xbox/PC Achievements
  • The Platinum, "Los Santos Legend," unlocks automatically once every other trophy is earned
  • The three Gold trophies are Above the Law (Rank 100 online), Career Criminal (100% story completion) and Solid Gold, Baby! (70 Gold Medals)
  • Nine trophies are missable, mostly tied to which ending you choose and who survives it
  • Enabling any cheat code disables trophies for the rest of that play session
  • Full completion averages 150+ hours, and the two biggest time sinks are the online rank grind and the mission Gold Medals

How many trophies and achievements does GTA 5 have?

The PlayStation version (PS3, PS4, PS5 and the PC/Steam Enhanced release also uses this same structure on Trophy-tracking sites) counts 78 trophies in total:

TierCountWhat it means
Platinum1Awarded once every other trophy is unlocked (PlayStation only)
Gold3The biggest single-task grinds
Silver15Mid-length story and side-content milestones
Bronze59Story beats, one-off objectives and most collectibles

Xbox and PC players get 77 Achievements covering the exact same content, minus the Platinum itself, since Xbox and Steam have no "collect everything" meta-trophy.

The Platinum trophy: Los Santos Legend

"Los Santos Legend" is a PlayStation exclusive. There is no separate task to complete for it: it pops the moment every other Gold, Silver and Bronze trophy in the base game is unlocked. That makes it the single best marker of "did I really finish GTA 5," and the reason platinum hunters build a checklist before they start rather than chasing trophies at random.

The 3 Gold trophies

Gold trophies each demand a long, single-focus grind rather than a quick task. They are also the reason a GTA 5 platinum run regularly clears 150 hours.

Gold trophyRequirementWhy it's the hardest tier
Above the LawReach Rank 100 in GTA OnlineNeeds close to 1.6 million RP; the slowest trophy in the game for most players
Career CriminalReach 100% completion in Story ModeRequires every category on our 100% completion checklist, not literally everything in the game
Solid Gold, Baby!Earn 70 Gold Medals across Story Mode and Strangers and Freaks missionsDemands near-flawless runs; see our heist Gold Medal guide for the heist share of that total

The hardest trophies to actually earn

A handful of trophies routinely trip up platinum hunters, either because they demand precision or because a single wrong choice locks them out for that playthrough:

  • Masterminds - beat all three Criminal Mastermind challenges in The Doomsday Heist, finishing every heist finale with no deaths and no restarts. Widely considered the single hardest trophy in the game.
  • Above the Law - the Rank 100 grind described above; it is less about skill than about hours logged in GTA Online.
  • Decorated - earn 30 Platinum Medals on GTA Online Heist Finales, which means repeating the toughest missions in the game until every objective is flawless.
  • Wanted: Alive or Alive - capture a wanted target alive rather than killing them. Only a handful of story missions offer the option, so it is easy to miss on a first playthrough.
  • Solid Gold, Baby! - covered above, but worth repeating: 70 Gold Medals is a full second playthrough's worth of replaying missions for most players.

Notable Silver and Bronze trophies worth knowing

Not every trophy is a grind. A few Silver and Bronze trophies double as useful gameplay unlocks or point straight at other content you will want anyway:

  • Wildlife Photography rewards you for photographing every animal species with your phone camera, and completing it unlocks the Kraken submersible for free use in Story Mode.
  • A Mystery, Solved... and The Government Gimps track the story's UFO and Epsilon Program threads, both of which lean on our easter eggs guide if you want the full lore rather than just the trophy.
  • The Midnight Club and the various race-related Bronze trophies are best picked up alongside Franklin's Strangers and Freaks missions, since several race and side-activity trophies unlock through those same chains.
  • Show Off (50 Stunt Jumps) and Close Shave (Under the Bridge and Knife Flight challenges) are pure map-knowledge trophies: nothing here needs skill, just a list of coordinates.
  • Several Bronze trophies tie into GTA 5's 14 required Random Events for 100% completion, so hunting Career Criminal and picking up these smaller trophies overlaps almost entirely.

Missable trophies: read this before the finale

Nine trophies can be permanently missed on a given save, and the biggest trap is GTA 5's three-way ending. Wanted: Alive or Alive and a handful of other trophies are tied to keeping specific characters alive through the story, which the "kill Trevor" or "kill Michael" endings prevent. If you are going for every trophy, pick the neutral ending (Deathwish) on your platinum save and only try the other two on a separate save file, or after the trophy is already banked. Our guide to GTA 5's three endings breaks down what each one locks you out of.

Do cheats disable GTA 5 trophies?

Yes. Entering any cheat code, from Rockstar's classic phone numbers to a controller combo, disables trophies and achievements for the rest of that session, and story progress made while a cheat is active does not count toward Career Criminal or any other trophy. See our full breakdown of how GTA 5 cheats and achievements interact for exactly which actions trigger the lock and how to clear it.

A practical roadmap to the Platinum

  1. Play the story clean first. No cheats, and pick Deathwish (the neutral ending) so every character-specific trophy stays available.
  2. Chase 100% completion as you go. Franklin's Strangers and Freaks missions, 14 Random Events, half the collectibles and five income-generating properties all count toward Career Criminal; see the 100% completion checklist for the exact split.
  3. Mop up collectibles in dedicated passes. All 50 Letter Scraps and all 50 Spaceship Parts each unlock their own trophy, and both are far faster with a map than by exploring blind.
  4. Bank the stunt-based trophies. Show Off needs all 50 Stunt Jumps, and Close Shave needs every Under the Bridge challenge plus every Knife Flight.
  5. Replay missions for Gold Medals last. Once the story and side content are done, grind toward 70 Gold Medals across missions and heists for Solid Gold, Baby!, and 30 Platinum Medals on heist finales for Decorated.
  6. Save the GTA Online grind for the end. Above the Law (Rank 100) is the slowest trophy by hours, so most platinum hunters run it in the background while farming Gold Medals offline in Story Mode.

How long does it take to platinum GTA 5?

Across trophy-tracking communities, a full platinum averages 150 or more hours, and only around 5% of PlayStation players who own the game have earned it. The two single biggest time costs are the Rank 100 online grind for Above the Law and the 30 Platinum Medals needed for Decorated; everything else in Story Mode, including 100% completion, is realistically doable inside 40-50 hours if you follow a checklist instead of exploring at random.

Whichever trophy you chase next, plan your route with a map rather than hunting blind. GTA 5's collectibles and side content are spread across a huge map, and dedicated location guides save more time than any single gameplay trick.
