GTA 6 Real-Life Locations: The Florida Places Behind Vice City

Vice City has never existed on a real map, but Leonida is built from real coordinates. Every district Rockstar has shown in the GTA 6 trailers traces back to an actual stretch of Florida - a hotel row, a swamp, a stadium, a forgotten port town. Here is what we actually know, region by region, based only on the official trailers and confirmed map details.

The essentials:

  • Vice City is Rockstar's long-running stand-in for Miami, and this version leans hardest yet into South Beach's Art Deco strip on Ocean Drive.
  • The Leonida Keys mirror the real Florida Keys; Grassrivers is the Everglades under a different name.
  • Port Gellhorn draws from Panama City Beach and Florida's "Forgotten Coast," while Mount Kalaga's canyon borrows from Providence Canyon State Park in Georgia.
  • Nothing here is a 1:1 recreation - Rockstar remixes real geography into a fictional state, the same way Los Santos remixed Los Angeles in GTA 5.
  • Everything below comes from official trailers and confirmed map assets, not leaks.

Vice City is Miami, again - but more of it

Vice City has stood in for Miami since 1986's original Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, but the GTA 6 version is the most literal yet. The trailers open on Lummus Park and the pastel hotel row that faces it, the same block of Art Deco buildings - Loews, the Royal Palm, 1500 Ocean Drive - that make up Miami Beach's real Art Deco Historic District. Rockstar renames the buildings (the Breakwater Hotel and the Hotel Victor become the Boardwalk and the Hotel Dixon in earlier games' fashion) but keeps their proportions, their neon trim and their exact placement on the strip.

A few blocks over, Downtown Vice City pulls from Downtown Miami's skyline, right down to a nightclub called NINE 1 NINE that is a clear nod to E11EVEN, the real 24-hour club a few streets from Bayfront Park. The arena visible in trailer footage lines up with the Kaseya Center, home of the Miami Heat on Biscayne Bay - expect it reskinned as a Vice City venue rather than named after a real team. The Port of Miami's cranes, container stacks and cruise terminals also appear almost unchanged, just relabeled.

If you want the full regional breakdown of where Vice City sits inside the state, we already mapped it out in GTA 6 Map: All 6 Confirmed Regions of Leonida, and the wider question of what the state even is gets answered in Where Is GTA 6 Set? Vice City and the State of Leonida Explained.

The Keys: Florida's real archipelago, renamed

South of the city, the Leonida Keys are Rockstar's version of the Florida Keys, the chain of islands strung along US Route 1 from Key Largo to Key West. Trailer shots of narrow bridges connecting small islands, mangrove shorelines and pastel bungalows track closely with the Upper and Middle Keys rather than the more built-up Key West, though some assets - a boardwalk with a giant statue - echo tourist stops like Robbie's Marina in Islamorada, famous for its tarpon feeding dock. Jason's childhood home is planted here, which tracks with how much of the real Keys still functions as a quiet, working-class strip rather than a resort corridor.

Grassrivers: the Everglades under a new name

Grassrivers is the clearest one-to-one swap on the map. Florida's Everglades is a sawgrass marsh that locals nicknamed "the river of grass" a century ago, and Rockstar's region name is almost a direct translation of that nickname. Airboat trails, cypress domes and gator-infested canals all point to the real Everglades and the smaller wetland parks around Fort Lauderdale and Naples. Expect the region to play like the isolated, lawless middle ground it is in real Florida - sparsely populated, hard to police, easy to disappear into.

Port Gellhorn: Florida's Forgotten Coast

Port Gellhorn sits on Leonida's northern coastline and borrows its identity from the Florida Panhandle - specifically Panama City Beach and the smaller Bay County towns around it, an area locals genuinely call the "Forgotten Coast" because it never got the high-rise development of South Florida. Rockstar's version keeps that same lower-key, working port feel: shrimp boats, older bridges and a beach strip that reads as faded rather than glossy, a deliberate contrast with Vice City's polish. Some of the shipping infrastructure also nods to Port Tampa Bay, suggesting Port Gellhorn is a composite of several Gulf Coast working ports rather than a single town.

Mount Kalaga: the one region that isn't Florida

Florida is famously flat, so the canyon and hill country of Mount Kalaga National Park stands out - because it isn't modeled on Florida at all. The rock formations most closely resemble Providence Canyon State Park in southwest Georgia, a canyon locals call "Georgia's Little Grand Canyon" that formed from 19th-century erosion rather than natural geology. The mountain itself leans closer to Table Rock in western North Carolina. It fits the setting because North Florida genuinely does border Georgia's hill country - Rockstar is just pulling from slightly further north to give Leonida the elevation the rest of the state can't offer.

Ambrosia and the inland sugar country

Further inland, the Ambrosia area draws from Florida's Lake Okeechobee region, particularly Clewiston, a town built almost entirely around US Sugar's refinery. Expect flat farmland, industrial processing plants and small company-town architecture, a contrast to both the coastal glamour of Vice City and the wilderness of Grassrivers. It is the least glamorous corner of the map and, going by GTA 5's Grand Senora Desert, likely to be one of the least visited.

Why this matters more than usual

Rockstar has always built its cities from real geography - Los Santos is Los Angeles with Las Venturas nearby standing in for Las Vegas, Liberty City is New York. What is different with Leonida is the volume of confirmed, trailer-verified real-world matches this early, which is why the map has become a research project of its own for the community. For how the city itself has changed since the series' first Vice City in 1986, see GTA 6's Vice City in 2026 vs. 1986: What's Changed, and for the neighborhoods inside it, GTA 6 Neighborhoods: Every Known District and Location in Leonida.

None of this is confirmed by Rockstar as an official map key - the studio has never published a real-to-fictional location list, and treating fan comparisons as gospel is a mistake. Everything above is drawn from what is visibly recognizable in the two official trailers and the confirmed regions on the GTA VI website, cross-referenced against real Florida geography. As more footage lands before the 19 November 2026 launch, expect the list of matches to grow - and some early guesses, especially around Port Gellhorn and Ambrosia, to get revised.

For the rest of the confirmed map beyond Vice City itself, Beyond Vice City: Every Other Region Confirmed for GTA 6 rounds up what Rockstar has shown so far, and GTA 6 Trailer 2 Breakdown: Vice City and the Whole Cast goes frame by frame through the footage all of this is sourced from.
